Fact sheets and briefing are available on a wide range of topics connected with 20mph limits on our national site at www.20splentyforus.org.uk/briefings.htm
In a recent planning application it was staed that 14,000 vehiclles travel along the A547, through Meliden, on a daily basis. We believe that this figure MAY be a bit low, but Denbighshire Highways say it is correct, if so this could mean that during the daytime an average of 1,000 vehicles per hour or 17 vehicles a minute go past the area where the 2 crashes ocurred.
Time to drive through the village.
Currently driving through the village will average about 1 minute 28 seconds, this is with a 30 mph speed limit and allowing the normal slowing required where the road width is restricted and the effect of the 2 crossings.
Were the speed limit to be reduced to 20 mph then the average time taken, for the same journey, would be increased by about 30 seconds.
This is a very small increase of time for such an important change.
